Doha Bank yesterday hosted its annual inter-staff bowling and billiards tournament at the Qatar Bowling Center as part of its year-round calendar of recreational and team-building activities for staff. A total of 51 teams participated in the bowling tournament while the billiards tournament saw participation from over 80 members of staff.
The teams comprised of employees drawn from different Doha Bank business divisions.
“At Doha Bank we are keen to help our staff balance their work and life responsibilities, and organizing sporting events and tournaments throughout the year forms an integral part of our effort to build employee engagement and promote employee health and well-being,” Dr. R. Seetharaman Doha Bank group CEO said.
“Leisure activities such as these provide employees a much-needed outlet from the pressures of the workplace while enabling them to stay active and have fun. Equally, such activities provide staff members an opportunity to bond with each other, and are known to positively influence group cohesion and dynamics, thereby benefiting the organization and the employees themselves,” he added.
The bowling tournament saw the number of teams in contention come down to 27 following an entertaining first round, with the top 9 teams eventually advancing to the final. At the end of a closely fought contest in the decisive round, Team ‘We’re On Strike’ – comprising Arturo Jose Cancheta, Diego Nicholas Angsioco, Michael Amion, and Anniete I. Dizon – emerged as deserving winners with ‘CMB Strikers’ finishing runners-up. Rounding out the top 5 positions were ‘Risk’, ‘Ten Pins Wizards’ and ‘The Mang’.
Prizes were distributed to winners of the top 5 positions, with special prizes awarded to the highest scoring male and female bowlers as well as to the team sporting the best uniform.
The billiards tournament, meanwhile, saw competition split across two categories – singles and doubles – and prizes were awarded to the first and second place winners in each category. Mohamed Mushir was crowned “Player of the Tournament” after triumphing in the pool single category, while Suhail Pasha and Preetham emerged winners in the doubles event.
Held alongside the inter-staff bowling and billiards tournament was a special tournament for kids present at the venue, where the categories were divided by age group.
