Bank staff demonstrate their stamina and mental toughness as they finish the grueling race with impressive timings
Demonstrating its continued commitment to sports, Doha Bank participated in the inaugural ITU World Triathlon Series 2015 – the world’s pinnacle triathlon circuit contested by the best Olympic competitors – held in Abu Dhabi last weekend.
One of the most popular contemporary sports, triathlon is a multiple-stage competition involving the completion of three continuous and sequential endurance disciplines – swimming, cycling, and running.
The Doha Bank contingent – comprising five staff members – joined more than 2,000 age groupers and elite athletes who took over the heart of the city, swimming in the clear waters of Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht Club, cycling the streets around the Corniche and finishing the run on the blue carpet at the grounds of the Abu Dhabi Marina Yacht Club.
“It’s a matter of great pride for us that Doha Bank was once again well-represented at such a prestigious, world-class sporting event,” said Dr. R. Seetharaman, Group CEO of Doha Bank. “Triathlon represents the ultimate test of human endurance, fitness and grit; it’s at once an extremely challenging and deeply satisfying sport, and I’m delighted that all members of our contingent were able to withstand the rigors of this grueling competition and finish the race with impressive timings.”
He added, “Supporting events and activities that encourage an active lifestyle is something we at Doha Bank are deeply committed to, and we are always on the lookout for opportunities to promote healthy living and sustainable practices, not only within our organization but among the community at large.”
Doha Bank staff members who took part in the ITU World Triathlon Series Abu Dhabi included Manuel Inigo Laig and Manuel Ocampo who competed in the Olympic Distance category (1.5km Swim/40km Cycle/10km Run) and Mark Penamante, Deogracias Sandoval and Oliver Legaspi who participated in the Sprint Distance category (500m Swim/20km Cycle/5km Run).
Doha Bank’s strong presence at the inaugural ITU World Triathlon Series follows its recent participation in the QCB 3-km run and the Dubai Marathon 2015. The Bank is also known for organizing the annual Al Dana Green Run – the most widely participated community run in Qatar.
